Hyaluronic Acid Side Effects
Hyaluronic acid which is plant derived rarely has side effects other than bruising, swelling, etc. But before you spend money on expensive injections, I would advise you look into other hyaluronic acid skin care options, such as creams and serums.
That’s right, they now make topical products which are relatively inexpensive and work wonders. Many top wrinkle creams are now using it as a primary ingredient. Ever since I first used it, I won’t use anything else.
However just like anything we encounter in life there are downfalls, and experimenting with skin care products is no exception. Often when we hear about the latest high tech beauty products and we go running to the cosmetic counters at our favorite department store or make a mad dash to the drug store to take advantage of whatever product seems to be the most desirable at the time. Before you do this, it’s always a good idea to compare the risks and rewards associated with each treatment.
Background
There are many different products in the skin care industry all of which claim to help, prevent, or fix many different problems we have with our sometimes temperamental skin. One of the products in particular that has been raved about, not only among dermatologist but consumers alike, are products that contain hyaluronic acid. This product is said to help with not only in the prevention of wrinkles and fine lines, but actually helps treat them once they have made their appearance on the face. It has also been commonly used in the treatment of arthritis in the knee. It is stated by doctors to help by increasing the moisture in the joints which helps the persons mobility.
Topical Side Effects
Some of the side effects of hyaluronic acid in gel forms may include such symptoms as swelling, tenderness and itching. Although these side effects are stated they don’t seem to be very common. In fact many people believe the reason why it is easily tolerated by is because our bodies actually produce this chemical in certain joints as well as our skin. Personally I have never met a single person that has had a side effect when using it in the topical form.
Injection Side Effects
Other hyaluronic acid side effects in relation to injections of this chemical (such as Restylane procedures which are done by a doctor) include the skin turning a multitude of different colors from a bright red to almost a blue in color. Hmmm? And I thought that rainbows were supposed to be good luck. Others include pain, fever, dizziness, rashes, stomach ache and swelling.
In relation to injections done on people with problems with their knees, some have reported hyaluronic acid side effects such as problems swallowing, severe headaches, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, loss of appetite, stuffy nose and itching.
Conclusion
Phew! Now I know what you are thinking, and before this turns into sounding like one of those ads on your television that state how to fix a problem by taking some type of medication, and then it reports more side effects than benefits, remember that it is necessary to know more information about a product before you invest your time and money into it. That way you are aware of all of the possible reactions associated with it if you decide to try it. The good news is that when it is used in the form of a topical cream or serum the side effects are very rare. Please realize that I am not a medical professional so you should discuss these things with a doctor.
The Next Step
Because I’ve had such incredible results using the cream, I always recommend people start with hyaluronic acid skin care creams before they resort to the more drastic (and expensive) injectable method.
